Halogen has been the default choice for auxiliary lighting for decades. It's cheap, it's familiar, and it's still sitting on shelves at every auto parts store in the country. But if you've ever run a set of halogen driving lights on a real trail, the limits show up fast. The beam looks weak next to your headlights. The bulb housing gets hot enough to worry about. Every amp your lighting pulls is an amp your alternator has to replace. LED diodes don't rely on a heated filament, so they're inherently more vibration resistant.
